Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A tantalizing red wine blend with fruity aromas of black current and cranberry jam. Red fruit dominates the palate with juicy raspberry notes followed by cedar flavors from the oak aging. This round and medium bodied beauty displays balanced acidity and finishes with notes of cocoa.
Vineyard Notes
Grenache, which is a well established varietal throughout Rhone wine region, as well as Spain, has also found a great home in the Lodi Appellation. Our growers obtain vine balance through the use of shoot thinning, leaf removal, and cluster thinning during the growing season to obtain optimal ripening. This Grenache comes from Aaron Shinn and is from the Mokelumne River Sub AVA of the Lodi Appellation.
Alicante Bouschet also has it’s origins in France. It is a cross of Grenache and Petit Bouschet, and it is one of the few teinturier winegrapes (where the inside of the berries is also red), which contributes to it’s fantastic color. The vineyard we pulled fruit from here is known as the Elk vineyard, located in the Borden Ranch Sub AVA of the Lodi Appellation and is managed by Round Valley Ranches.
The small amount of Petit Verdot also comes from the same vineyard location as the Alicante Bouschet.
Zinfandel included in this wine comes from grower Ken Deaver up in the Sierra Foothills (Plymouth) of Amador County.
Production Notes
Grapes for all these lots were hand-picked in the morning and gently sorted and transferred to a temperature controlled stainless steel tank for cold soak. Must was inoculated with some carefully selected yeast strains and fermentation was done in tank. These lots received regular timed pump overs. Aged in both American & French oak barrels, 24.2% new oak.
